My Boudoir Portrait Showcase
The hardest thing for me as a photographer is choosing my favorite photos for my showcase. I love every boudoir portrait for its own unique qualities! Seriously, you lovely ladies are hot.
Every new boudoir portrait session produces photos that are my “new favorites”. I commemorate those after every session on my blog. Let’s consider this boudoir portrait gallery my “hall of fame favorites”… for now.
A Boudoir Portrait is a Rejection of Body Shame
From the dawn of human history male-dominated cultures have tended to systematically objectify women. Not not only as “sex objects” but as “objects to be protected”. Women are shamed for the very things that give them sacred feminine power.
“Cover up.”
“Dress modestly.”
“Leave more to the imagination.”
For many of us this simply sounds like good advice. However, I’ve grown to understand societal expectations like these about women are nothing more than a way to control us and remove our power. Why is it okay for a man to run around shirtless? If they are buff we even applaud their “strength”, but a half-nude woman? We cover our children’s eyes and express outrage. Why is this?
A Boudoir Portrait is a Reclamation of Our Sacred Female Power
I would argue it’s because we recognize in the female form a sacred power that intimidates the rest of society. While our species as a whole tends to be destroying the planet, women, by their very nature, are a source of ultimate creation. We are the living opposites of destructive natures. In fact, no soldier, world-leader, hunter, football player or any other masculine archetype would exist without a woman’s creative nature. We instinctively want to protect and worship a woman’s powerful nature. Sadly, we quickly pervert that instinct into possession and control (even by other women)!
In short, I believe a boudoir portrait session is a vital step in every woman’s growth into the sacred goddess she was born to be: filled with creative potential and unashamed of the alluring curves that make her awesome. This is true of women who choose not to, or cannot have children. Regardless of age, sexual orientation, or lifestyle, all women have that sacred potential to create and nurture life.
This gallery is proof of that: I am so honored so many everyday women have allowed me to celebrate their portraits here.
How about you? Are you ready to proclaim your sexy truth, too?
