Yes, models are ALL retouched!
So, this blog post was inspired by one of my oldest and dearest friends, Kelly. Recently, while Kelly and her fiance were out here in Colorado, I took some boudoir photos of her. Now Kelly is a smart and beautiful gal, but what I’m about to say just floored me. When we finished the session, I let her see some of the images, un-retouched of course (big mistake). Since we are all our own worst critics, (ladies we now this is true) I’m sure you already know some of the things that came out of her mouth. “Oh, dear god, am I really that fat,” and “Do I really have all that cottage cheese back there,” but my favorite one of all… “why don’t the models in magazines look like that?” Ummm, really Kelly? Maybe because they are ALL retouched?! You are 32 years old, girl tell me you knew this. Please, please, please tell me you knew this!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am all about retouching and that is why I am writing this post. Retouching is included in any boudoir packages and I will spruce up all your photos, by fixing up all those little cosmetic things that make us self-conscious. I just want to lay it out there. everybody has things that make them self-conscious, even models and beautiful actors, and don’t forget they ALL get retouched. But believe me when I say that sometimes models have way too much retouching done and for some reason we think this looks good. We must not let this alter how we feel about our own bodies anymore: it’s fake people. I know everyone has seen the cover of W magazine with Demi Moore and her with a chunk of missing hip http://www.celebitchy.com/category/demi_moore/. What the heck is up with that? Tragedy. Don’t worry gals, I have very strict guidelines on how much retouching I will do. I will not make you look fake (or forget part of your leg or hip in a photo). Don’t forget: your man knows what you look like, but it’s always nice to get a touch of that “model treatment”. It just needs to be subtle and it definitely needs to be done correctly.
Here is an example an LBoudoir photo, before and after retouching. And below that, is a link to an article I found while writing this post that is relative, so if you have some time, read it!
